About Us

Who We Are

Whistlefritz was founded in 2006 by a mom with a passion for teaching language to children when their cognitive skills are most receptive to it – in early childhood. With the knowledge that this language “window of opportunity” begins as early as the toddler years, Whistlefritz’s founding mom successfully developed a Spanish language program for her own children. But her passion didn’t stop there. It flourished into Whistlefritz, a young company on a mission to create entertaining Spanish DVDs for other parents (and teachers) who want to open up that language window of opportunity for their own children.

Headquartered in Maryland on the outskirts of Washington, D.C., Whistlefritz is growing strong. With the help of professional artists, entertainers, early childhood professionals and language specialists who have contributed their talents and expertise to the Spanish for Beginners series, our DVDs are a vital educational resource with a serious focus on fun!

Our Philosophy

Focus on Fun!
Our philosophy of language learning is simple: children are naturally curious, they enjoy learning languages, and they love to have fun! If a language program is stimulating enough to engage a child’s sense of curiosity and entertaining enough to fulfill a child’s sense of fun, then the learning will happen naturally.

Again and Again …
Repetition is the key to language learning! When children are repeatedly exposed to a language program, they will begin to absorb the language effortlessly. Whistlefritz Spanish DVDs are designed to captivate kids from the first viewing, and keep them coming back again and again. Tailored specifically to themes and characters that are uniquely appealing to children – and also enjoyable for adults – these Spanish DVDs encourage repeat viewings, prompting children to learn Spanish without even realizing it.

Immersion is Important!
Whistlefritz DVDs teach Spanish through total immersion, which research shows is the most efficient and effective way for children to gain fluency. Total immersion means all words, whether spoken or sung, are in Spanish only. Switching back and forth between English and Spanish actually delays children’s mastery of Spanish. Why? It’s human nature. Children will rely on their most familiar language to try to figure out (or translate) the meanings of words that are foreign to them. Spanish immersion empowers children to learn new Spanish words from the context in which they’re introduced, which is the same way children learn their native language. When only Spanish is used, children will use their innate language detective skills to figure out word meanings and crack the code to this new language.

With a focus on creating a world of fun in an environment of total Spanish immersion, Whistlefritz has designed a series of Spanish DVDs children will want to watch again and again. Now you can give your children more than just a Spanish language program … you can give them the opportunity of a lifetime!
